But let's just call it what it is: Logging Without Laws: Logging up to 30,000 acres without environmental review. Protection for threatened species like Pacific salmon becomes optional. Courts aren't allowed to stop illegal logging until forests are already cut down.
Our worst fears have been confirmed. Our beloved Cascade Siskiyou National Monument is one of a handful of national monuments now being targeted by the Secretary of the Interior for destruction. This could be the biggest blow to our ecoregion in decades.
The fisher plays a key role in regulating the populations of its prey species, many of which can become destructive if left unchecked. Most notably, it is a specialized predator of porcupines, which it kills by flipping over to expose the non-quilled belly.
The Klamath-Siskiyou Ecoregion is our shared and priceless heritage. Together, we can generate the political will necessary to protect these lands and waters for the betterment of current and future generations.
