Join us for a stewardship event where you can learn about, and help, the rare Mardon Skipper butterfly.
Found only in high mountain meadows, in just a couple places in Oregon, this species needs protection and the Cascade Siskiyou National Monument has long been one of this butterfly’s few refuges that have been negatively affected by past land use.
We will provide training to volunteers and teach them how to monitor the habitat and check for fence damage & repair if needed, cattle trespass, and signs of OHV misconduct. After the training, we will organize a site visit to monitor the Mardon Skipper's habitat.
Meet at the KS Wild office at 10am for volunteer protocol training, then carpool for a site visit. Bring a pen, paper, sun protection, water & lunch.
This is a collaboration with Vesper Meadow, Friends of Cascade-Siskiyou National Monument, and Bureau of Land Management (BLM).
