Artist Statement:

I am excited to present “A Forest Path”, Watercolors Along The Journey with KS Wild.

Having spent extended time backpacking and painting in the wilderness, I know the forest as a sacred abode Painting in the wilds,I experience a heightened awareness of being face to face with the elements of the macrocosm and the microcosm simultaneously. That orientation follows me back to the studio to repaint my hiking sketches, as watercolor is the ideal medium for a forest painter.

Be it a cattail in the light, a blue heron or a moose in the meadow, painting brings me into direct contact with my subject’s essence which seems to reflect back to me appreciation at being witnessed. Not all are good paintings but the connection remains. Forest painting is a joyous experience of “conviviality with what is not human.”

I have been fortunate to have had so many extraordinary mentors. In return I enjoy teaching watercolor skills, helping others reclaim their own power as artists - allowing the inner voices of perfectionism and self doubt to come and go as they/we keep on painting.

KS Wild protects and defends old growth forests and repairs the sanctity of our water ways. Part of the proceeds from art sales go to help his non profit organization meet their goals. My choosing to present this show is inspired by a wish to support them as well.
