A New Home for KS Wild
Here is a little update about what is happening with the property.
If you have done business, or lived in the vicinity of “A” Street in Ashland’s Railroad District, you likely met or knew Gary Powell. Gary purchased his property in the 90’s and spent many years caring for and living in his home. He was a well-known member in the community. An ardent advocate for immigrant and LGBTQ rights, the arts and the environment, Gary also worked on staff with the Klamath-Siskiyou Wildlands Center, better known as KS Wild.
Unfortunately, after a short battle with cancer, Gary passed away in 2018, followed shortly thereafter by his husband, Geronimo. As a potent and lasting gift, Gary left his property to KS Wild.
KS Wild is the new owner of the property and will be converting it into a commercial office space as our new home in downtown Ashland.
KS Wild is a local environmental non-profit that works to protect and restore wild nature in the Klamath-Siskiyou region of southwest Oregon and northwest California. We promote science-based land and water conservation through policy and community action. We envision a Klamath-Siskiyou region where local communities enjoy healthy wildlands, where clean rivers are teeming with native salmon, and where connected plant and wildlife populations are prepared for climate change.
We are honored and thrilled to transform Gary and Geronimo’s home into a permanent office for our organization so that we may continue to work with local communities to protect the wild lands, waters and wildlife of this region.
We are working with local contractors and the City to make the necessary changes. As you may notice, there is work being done on the property currently to prepare for parking construction and ADA access to the building.
