Join us for an informative walk and learn about the geologic forces that created the Dead Indian Plateau, and how the current ecology reflects the interplay between the geology and plant community. Located in the heart of the Cascade-Siskiyou region, Vesper Meadow offers sweeping views of Mt. Mclaughlin, forested volcanic outcrops, and interesting alluvial flows covered in early spring flowers. A stroll along Dead Indian Creek will be led by geologist Jad D’Allura, Ph.D. and naturalist Jeanine Moy of Vesper Meadow Education Program. Jad will share information from his latest field studies and newly released geologic maps for the region. We will walk less than 2 miles of fairly flat, but uneven surfaces, periodic stops for discussion, and inevitably some geology puns will be made. Please join us for a fun afternoon!  

Jad D’Allura, Ph.D., is an emeritus professor of geology at Southern Oregon University. With a career of field work and geologic research in our region, and his passion for teaching, we are excited to have Jad lead this walk at Vesper Meadow. He continues his 25+ years of work geologic mapping of the Cascade-Siskiyou region, as well as looking at the effects of different geologic substrates on water flow and retention.
