The Biden-Harris Administration Commits on Climate Change
The Biden Administration's Executive Actions to Tackle the Climate Crisis at Home and Abroad, Create Jobs, and Restore Scientific Integrity Across Federal Government:
KS Wild applauds the Biden administration for taking concrete steps to begin addressing the impacts of climate change on our communities and public lands. It is refreshing to see that science and environmental justice will drive these decisions. The Civilian Climate Corps Initiative could lead to jobs in our forests that make them more resilient to climate change. It will lead to communities becoming more prepared for natural disasters like the fires this past Labor Day. We must redouble our efforts to make communities safe from fire, and we can do this while providing good paying jobs.
The forests of the Pacific Northwest are one of the planet's greatest assets to help mitigate climate change, including those in the Klamath-Siskiyou. They also provide clean drinking water, a vibrant recreation economy, and are a sanctuary for salmon and wildlife. Let's get to work protecting biodiversity in our forests, restoring degraded habitat, and making our communities safe from the impacts of climate change.
The administration also rejoined the Paris Climate Agreement, directing agencies to purchase American-made, zero emission vehicles, suspend new oil and gas leases on public lands, and conserve at least 30 percent of federal lands and waters by 2030. As the administration and Congress continues to pursue climate policy, KS Wild is focused on concrete action in our region, including 1) protection of carbon dense old forests, 2) conserving cold water in streams in the era of climate change for fish as well as communities, 3) protecting communities from increased fire risk, and 4) helping working class and underserved communities equitably adapt to climate change.
