Going Rogue in a Meaningful Way - Take Action Now

Southwest Oregon's Rogue River flows through one of the most spectacular and biologically unique wildlands in the United States, supporting critical habitat for native salmon and steelhead populations as one of the West's most important spawning grounds. Right now, only part of the lower Rogue's watershed is protected, leaving a large adjacent roadless area open to commercial logging, mining, and road-building.  With each timber sale and new road built, the roadless area shrinks in size, the valuable wildlife habitat is degraded, and recreational opportunities are lost. Now is the time to protect these roadless areas and free-flowing streams for this and future generations.

Under the federal Wild and Scenic Rivers Act, the Wild Rogue would receive lasting protections to safeguard this area's waters, fish and wildlife, scenery, and recreational values. Clicking the link above will send an email to your Congressional representative thanking them for introducing the Lower Rogue Wild and Scenic Rivers Act of 2009 and asking that they secure hearings soon and pass the legislation in 2010.

These bills have already been introduced in both houses of Congress and now await committee hearings. Please help apply grassroots pressure so that our Congressional champions will prioritize this legislation and get it past the finish line in 2010!
