Grants Pass, Oregon - Plans for the proposed Siskiyou Crest National Monument are moving forward.

Josephine County Board of Commissioners say they should have a say in the plans, since much of the land lies within the county lines. On Tuesday the group discussed a new draft resolution, which calls on federal officials to keep local leaders in the loop whenever the issue comes up for discussion.

The draft resolution now goes to Josephine County's legal counsel for review, and will probably receive a public hearing before commissioners consider adopting it.

The proposal would turn about a million acres of the Siskiyou Crest into a national monument. The Siskiyou Crest runs east to west and connects the Cascades to the Coast Range. It is an important corridor for habitat migration.
