Uncle Sam is seeking proposals for natural resource projects that would benefit local rural economies and the U.S. Bureau of Land Management’s Medford District.

The Title II projects will be funded by the reauthorized Secure Rural Schools and Community Self-Determination Act. Individuals, nonprofit organizations, organized groups and local governments all are eligible to receive the competitive funding.

Deadline for submitting proposals for the special BLM projects is Feb. 19.

According to the law, the purposes of the Title II funds are to “make additional investments in and create additional employment opportunities through projects that improve the maintenance of existing infrastructure, implement stewardship objectives that enhance forest ecosystems and restore and improve land health and water quality.”

A secondary goal is to improve cooperative relationships between local residents and agencies that manage the federal lands.

A resource advisory committee will review each proposal and recommend to the BLM which projects should be funded. The committee will consider projects to be funded during the fiscal year 2011.

Mail proposals to Medford_Mail@blm.gov and include “Title II” in the subject line.

Application forms and instructions on how to fill out the forms are available on the district Web site at www.blm.gov/or/districts/medford/plans/secure.php.

If you do not have access to a computer or need more information, call district Title II program coordinator Roger Schnoes at 541-618-2397.
