Oregon health officials have slapped a $5,000 fine on the federal
Bureau of Land Management for spraying polluted water onto land in the
Hyatt Lake recreation area near Ashland.
The Department of Environmental Quality found the violations occurred
between July 2007 and September 2009 at the BLM's sewage treatment
facility.
In addition to spraying polluted water, the BLM failed to properly
montior fecal coliform levels in reclaimed water and didn't prepare
require reports on wastewater discharge, the DEQ said.
