KS Wild Winter Hike: South Cascade Snow Shoe
Saturday February 6th: South Cascades Snow Shoe
For this winter wonderland outing we will park along Hwy 140 and hike south on the Pacific Crest Trail around the slopes of Brown Mountain, a young shield volcano covered with scree from relatively recent lava flows. If the weather allows, we should get some great views of nearby Mt. McLoughlin as well as walk through classic Cascade Range conifer forest. This area is just miles from the route of the proposed LNG pipeline that would cross through Southwest Oregon that KS Wild has been fighting for more than a year.
Both of Ashland's outdoor stores rent snow shoes at reasonable daily rates.
Meet at Evo's Cafe in Ashland at 10 am to coordinate carpools to the trailhead.
For all hikes: We will hike in light rain, but will cancel for more severe weather.
Bring: food, water, warm clothes, rain gear if needed and binoculars if you have them!
