Let’s Pull Together: Invasive Weed Event
Jun 28, 2008 from 09:00 am to 12:00 pmSix locations in Jackson County, Hawthorne Park celebration
KS Wild is sponsoring Jackson County's first annual "Pulling Together Initiative." Join volunteers from throughout the county on June 28, from 9-11am for a day of hands-on learning to discover which weeds are really menacing and how we can keep them from taking over. Volunteers will be treated to a BBQ at Medord's Hawthorne Park after the morning event.
Noxious weeds are non-native invasive species which threaten our ecosystem. They not only crowd out native plants, but they starve wildlife, use water and create allergens. Noxious weeds also increase undergrowth and fuel which during wildfires can radically change the speed and fury at which wildfires burn. And yes...they are trying to take over Oregon. The best way to fight noxious weeds is to educate and mobilize the people who live here and love this landscape. What plants are the most invasive? How can we keep them in check?
Come on out on June 28th to one of several sites to Pull Together, lend a hand and learn more about invasive weeds. Choose your favorite site among the following: North Mountain Park in Ashland, Prescott Park in east Medford, Bear Creek Greenway in Central Point, Denman wildlife Preserve in White City, Jefferson Nature Center off Highway 99 or Valley of the Rogue State Park.
